Dozer.jpg
Dozer @ Shuswap SPCA

Age: 18 months        Breed: Rottweiler Cross

We would love to find a foster home for this boy so we could help with his medical needs

Dozer is a very large Rottie/ Shepherd cross. He needs to go to a home with experience in large powerful breeds and someone with the confidence to lead him into being a great canine citizen.
Some obedience training has been done with this guy so the foundation is there, he just needs an experienced home to continue with this.
We would not recommend small children around this dog, he is big and the name Dozer suits him well.
While he enjoys playing with some dogs, Dozer can be reactive towards other males and small dogs, if he plays he likes to be in charge. Small dogs, cats, chickens etc are all things to chase at this stage of Dozers life so he must go to a home without small animals. In time and with training he will likely overcome the excitability of these things but for now, absolutely no small animals or livestock.
As with many Rotties and Shepherds, Dozer does have the potential to develop hip problems in the future, he does have elbow displasia in his left elbow so he is not a dog for joggers or extremely active people, he will need a good daily walk and playtime with his new guardian though. His joint problems are being managed with a prescription mobility food and supplements but surgery would be the best option. Either way, regular vet care is essential for Dozer and potential homes should realise the associated costs of this.
Dozer is not to be an outside only dog, he does not have the right temperament or physical needs for this, he needs to be inside with his people. If he is to spend time outside sunbathing, lounging, snooping around then he will need to be behind a good solid fence.
And now for the good news.... Dozer is a very loving boy, he is clean inside his house and he likes to learn new things. He is young and has lots of potential. He is a beautiful looking guy and people who like big dogs will fall in love with him.
So to sum it up, if you like big dogs, if you have experience with training big dogs, if you can afford to pay the vet bills and the food bills and can commit to him for the rest of his life, if you dont have small furry feathered running things living with you and your neighbour doesnt either, if you dont want an outside dog to keep the wildlife or neighbours away, then drop us a line. You may be just the person he is looking for.
